The 2024 Quokka 1oz silver bullion coin is the Perth Mint's fifth release of the series and has gained huge popularity by coin collectors and investors across the globe.
Quokkas are wallaby-like marsupials found mainly in the south west region of Western Australia, particularly Rottnest Island, an idyllic location 18 kilometres off the Perth coastline. About the same size of domestic cats, furry quokkas are extremely sociable animals blessed with a cute, smiley appearance that’s made them a popular subject for ‘selfies’ in the age of social media.
The coin portrays a ‘happy family’ of quokkas in a beachside location featuring a lighthouse and vegetation symbolising their Rottnest Island home. Included in the design is the inscription ‘QUOKKA’, a ‘P125’ mintmark signifying The Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary, and the 2024 year-date.
H.M. King Charles III effigy - The coin’s obverse portrays the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, and the monetary denomination.
All Perth Mint coins produced in 2024 will include a unique ‘P125’ mintmark signifying The Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary.
Due to this unique marking on the coin, there has been wide speculation that coins from this year may perform well in the years to come, similarly to the those coins that have previously displayed 'privy' marks with low mintage numbers.
